Transportation

Public Transportation

Public Transportation is one way to help the environment. Through taking the subway, bus, or any other form, U.S. reliance on foreign oil would decrease. "According to Treehugger.com, if just one in 10 Americans used public transportation daily, U.S. reliance on foreign oil would decrease 40 percent" (Public Transportation). It is also safer than driving on your own. By riding a bus, train or subway, you are 79% or more safer than you would be in a small car. Public Transportation is also better for health due to the fact that people have to walk to bus stops or train stations. Money is also a great factor to bring up with public transportation. Families can save up to 6,200 dollars annually.

Hybrid and Electric Cars

Each hybrid car has a small, fuel- efficient gas engine and also an electric motor. This electric motor is automatically recharged when you drive. The two types of hybrid cars are parallel and series. A parallel hybrid powers the car with the electric motor and the gas engine equally and at the same time. In a series hybrid, the gasoline engine either directly powers the electric motor that powers the car or charges the batteries that powers the motor. This is a good option if you don't want to go fully electric but still want to help the environment.
