Ways that Communities can Decrease Greenhouse Gas and Help
Improve the Environment
Preserve existing trees whenever possible. Too often mature trees are destroyed because they are "in the way" of some other activity (building development, etc.).
Encourage park managers and individuals to use less pesticides on lawns and to reduce the amount of area being mowed.
Create carpools with neighbors and friends to save gas and emit less pollution to the environment. It also helps to consolidate trips and make sure you run all of your errands in one day. That way, less gas is used and you don't have to drive around multiple times throughout the week.
Facilitate bicycle riding by providing safe bike lanes, signaling, and public support for such travelers.
Offer a water and energy conservation conference, technical assistance or funding program for educational facilities.
Give homeowners a list of hazardous ingredients that are contained in some common cleaning products so interested citizens can compare cleaners when they shop.
